The abstract paintings are a direct response to colour and the play of light on form that captivate me. In the process of painting, the essence of what is seen is expressed on the canvas with the minimum of interference on my part

For many years my work was entirely representational and mainly figurative. It came as something of a surprise to me, then, when very recently these abstracts arose quite spontaneously. I feel that what moves me is coming through more strongly and clearly in my current work as I allow the paintings to paint themselves, as it were.

My work is presented in the series that inspired them. Each subject has many interpretations and I return to them again and again. It is an ongoing exploration and love affair with the beautiful world around us.
